PS5 Exclusive Cinematic Survival Sim Abandoned Announced, Coming in 2021

Abandoned

Netherlands-based studio Blue Box Game Studios has announced a PS5 exclusive cinematic survival sim Abandoned which is coming out later this year. Abandoned is a cinematic, first-person horror survival shooter which is set in a highly detailed open world environment and favors a realistic approach to survival. The developer has also showcased the very first gameplay teaser of Abandoned as well.

Before we jump into further details about Abandoned, check out the gameplay trailer for the upcoming PS5 exclusive below:

The story of Abandoned revolves around Jason Longfield who wakes up in a strange forest. He has no memory of how he got there and why he was abandoned. However, upon waking up, Jason figures out soon enough that he was kidnapped and brought there for a dark purpose. His main goal now is to escape from the forest with his life. The game will focus on realism in nearly all aspects.

One example that the developer gives in the announcement release is that if Jason runs out of breath while sprinting, he will need some time to get back to his optimal condition and until that happens, Jason’s firing accuracy will suffer massively. Overall, firing weapons will already be a slow process and you must not expect Jason to shoot weapons like that in Call of Duty. The game features a more tactical approach for combat rather than arcade shooting.

PS5 Exclusive Abandoned

The game is being developed with a cinematic, first-person story in mind. Players looking for a fast-paced shooter here will be disappointed. There will be no running, aiming, and shooting here as the game will focus on more lifelike mechanics that will be slow and players will need to think ahead. Each and every enemy encounter will be tense and a single mistake can cause Jason his life. The game will also utilize the full potential of the PS5 console.

Advanced features offered by the DualSense controller and 3D audio will be very useful in the game and will increase user immersion. The haptic feedback will ensure that players feel every bullet that they get hit with and also if they try to fire a loaded weapon vs an unloaded weapon will feel massively different. The 3D audio will help players plan their next move with accuracy. Apart from this, the game will also make full use of PS5’s additional power.

The game will feature high-quality motion capture running at 60 FPS and rendered in brilliant 4K resolution. Hasan Kahraman, Game Director at Blue Box Game Studios also detailed that the studio is trying to make the environment as close to reality as possible. All of this combined will deliver an experience with ultra-realistic graphics, smooth character animations, and minimal loading screens. A detailed gameplay video will be released later.

Blue Box Game Studios has not released a lot of details about Abandoned at this point however the studio has revealed that the game will release exclusively on the PS5 in Q4, 2021.
