Square Enix has confirmed that its upcoming Marvel’s Avengers will be a launch title for both the next-gen consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X. Apart from that, all players who purchase the current-gen version of the game, whether on PS4 or Xbox One, will get a free upgrade for the PS5 or Xbox Series X versions when the console launches later.
According to this announcement, it means that if you purchase a PS4 copy, you will be eligible for a free PS5 version of the game and if you purchase an Xbox One copy of the game, you will be eligible for a free Xbox Series X copy of the game. However, we do not yet know whether this will be a long-term upgrade and will only run for a short time near the launch of both next-gen consoles.
Apart from the free upgrade, players will also be able to carry over their progression and saved files from their current-gen console to the next-gen console. It means that your progression and time spent will not be wasted. You will have exactly the same saved file on your next-gen upgraded version of the game. In addition, Square Enix has also announced that Marvel’s Avengers will have cross-play multiplayer.
However, the cross-play will only work within the same family of consoles which means that PS5 and PS4 players will be able to play with each other and Xbox One and Xbox Series X players will be able to play with each other. This is still great cross-play support because if some of the people in your group upgrade to the next-gen while you decide to stick with the current-gen, everyone will still be able to play the game with each other. They just have to be on the same family of consoles.
Crystal Dynamics has promised that next-gen versions of the game will be much better than the current-gen versions. They will come with two playing modes with one focusing on 60 frames per second and the second mode allowing for more visual fidelity. The games will come with all the new visual goodies as well such as ray tracing, faster loads times, and ‘armor destruction’. This means that the next-gen versions will be visually more authentic than the current-gen versions.
