FBC: Firebreak’s First Patch Completely Changes Game Progression, Makes it Easier for New Players to Jump In

FBC: Firebreak Review First Patch

After receiving mixed reviews, Remedy Entertainment has taken player feedback into consideration for its brand-new co-op supernatural shooter, FBC: Firebreak. The first patch, dubbed v1.2, has arrived for FBC: Firebreak after just a week of its release, and it completely changes how the game now handles in-game progression and also makes it much easier for new players to jump into the game. Earlier, there were very few tutorials for players to learn about in-game mechanics, and it sort of wanted players to learn everything on their own, with tips appearing on the screen rarely.

To make players understand some in-game mechanics and how to complete the Hot Fix job in the game, Remedy has also released the Surviving the Workplace Hot Fix video. Check it out before we jump into the patch notes for the new update:

For its first patch, Remedy is focusing on making it easier for new players to jump into the game and improving the first hour of gameplay by introducing simpler mechanics and offering new things to try out. The developer explains that, according to their player statistics, they have observed that a small number of players have managed to unlock the full set of tools for their kits, which is due to the high amount of grinding required to unlock additional equipment in the game.

To make jobs easier to access, the progression system is making a big change. Instead of starting with Tier 1 jobs and then gradually unlocking Tier 2 and Tier 3 jobs, which offer the complete experience of any job, players will now gain access to a single job in its entirety. This unlocks the full Tier 3 option for an unlocked job, and if you complete it, you will unlock its Corruption mode as well, while the Difficulty slider will remain available right from the start. Once you complete a job, it will give you access to the next job. In short, the progression is now summarized as:

  • You are no longer required to play the first two Clearance Levels of each Job.
  • New players start their experience with a full three-zone Hot Fix Job run (Clearance Level 3).
  • Completing the full Job unlocks the next full Job, and so on.
  • Completing a full Job also unlocks the Corruption option for that Job.

Remedy has also announced that they are working to improve the UI of the game, making it easier for players to understand what is happening to them. This includes on-screen notifications of different status effects like being on fire, shared shield benefits, Resonance, and more. Another aspect includes what players need to do to complete a task. These are planned for future patches, but the new patch brings a difference to treating the Lost Assets, one of the resources in the game, which is used to purchase different items from the Requisition screen. Some of the things added in the patch to make grinding a little easier include:

  • Lost Assets and Research Samples are now clearly visually highlighted, making it harder to miss them
  • Rebalancing the cost of all unlockables
  • We have split the Operational Requisitions into two:
  • All cosmetics (sprays, armor sets) are placed in a new Requisitions page called “Expressions”.
  • Operational Requisitions is renamed to “Essentials” and as the name implies, contains weapons, gear, and equipment.
  • Making essentials like Altered Augments, Improvised Devices, and powerful weapons easier to access.
  • The end result of these changes is that you can unlock and buy gear significantly faster than before. No more needing to unlock gloves just to get to a better revolver.

We reviewed FBC: Firebreak last week, and we highlighted the fact that the game is currently lacking content, but we enjoyed the overall gameplay mechanics of the game. Progression in the game is definitely slow, and the lack of content plays its part as well because you can only play the five Jobsites to a certain level before getting bored with them. Remedy is adding additional jobs to the game in the future, but the first job will arrive in Fall, with another this Winter, so there is a gap between additional content. With the new patch, the developers are making it easier to acquire items and progress easily in the game. Let’s see what they cook up for the next update. FBC: Firebreak is now available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
