Empire of Sin just got a new trailer featuring a new character called Elvira Duarte who was the actual great-grandmother of John Romero. The character is based on the real crime boss Elvira Duarte, known for owning and running three brothels back in the ’20s.
Empire of Sin is a mobster strategy game from Romero Games Ltd. The trailer was released alongside the celebration of Mother’s Day.

The trailer video features both Brenda and John Romero who are a part of Romero Games Ltd, explaining how the new character is based on the actual great-grandmother of John Duarte. John goes on to say that Elvira was an interesting character who walked around with a green parrot on her shoulder and she would smoke cigarettes, and tell jokes with the parrot answering her all in Spanish.
Elvira ran three brothels that she started in Nogales. She did that for probably two decades until she won the lottery and sold the businesses and retired.
On the other hand, Brenda Romero talked about the character in the game, and how she is influenced by the real Elvira Duarte.
I came up with the idea to use Elvira in the game. I absolutely loved her as a larger than life figure. Elvira was a badass powerful woman and I wanted to bring that badass powerful woman into Empire of Sin. She was also around in the 1920s, so this was a real woman who ran real rackets. And I really wanted to bring her to life in this game and sort of, I guess, honor her and honor the work that she did.
I really hope people will love playing Elvira in Empire of sin. She is an absolutely fantastic character and she highlights the kind of diverse cast that I wanted for this game.
Moving on to Elvira’s abilities, which include the Devil’s Breath that allows her to go to an enemy and then breathe out purple smoke into their faces to completely take control over them and use them against each other. This basically lets you take control of the enemies and fight them for you instead of having you face the encounter.
Empire of Sin is planned for a release this fall for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Pc, and Nintendo Switch.
