Destiny 2 is Under performing on Activision’s Expectations Despite The Free Giveaways

Destiny 2 released September 6, 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Blizzard Entertainment platform. Destiny 2 marked the first game in series to release of PC platform. There was a lot of hype surrounded before the release of the game but it had rough start at launch and Activision kept on trying to keep it interesting for new as well as returning players.

Recently, on earning’s call, Activision mentioned in an address that Destiny 2 is under performing to what we expect from it. Activision has tried many moves to bring in a large scale of audience to keep playing Destiny 2, but, it appears that things are not working out.

Destiny 2 Forsaken was released September 4, 2018. The Forsaken update introduced various new game modes, new in-game balances and basically changed the game a lot. Activision had high hopes from Forsaken that it will finally be the secret ingredient to bring masses on Destiny 2. However, the charm of Forsaken faded away after couple of months after the release of it.

Destiny 2 was also handed as a free game on PlayStation Plus in the month of September. This move clearly hinted at that time that Activision wants a large number of players to try the game for free and later buy the Forsaken DLC. The move somehow worked and people started to buy the Forsaken dlc.

Just recently, Destiny 2 has become free to claim on PC Blizzard Entertainment platform. All these promotions availability pinpoint to one fact that Destiny 2 is under performing on hope of Activision and Bungie.

Activision is desperate in capturing wide audience to play Destiny 2 that it completely disregards the current player base. The free giveaway copy of Destiny 2 is sure for new comers but what about the present users? They do not get any discount on season pass. Activision is not running any promotion where loyal members of the community get discount of DLCs or season pass. Maybe its time Activision change their strategy.
