Treyarch has announced that the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will need a 50GB update if the players have purchased a physical copy of the game. This update will be only for the physical disc owners while digital purchases will come with the update already patched to the game.
In an official announcement, they have revealed the size of the update, the game and how players will be unable to play without the update. The size of the update is 50 GB while the size of the complete game is around 55 GB which means that the update will be patching a major part of the game. Without this update, players will not be able to play Multiplayer, Zombies or the Specialist Headquarters mode.
Players can jump in the Blackout mode without this update and according to Treyarch, Blackout can be accessed when the game is around 30% installed or downloaded. This means that players will be able to jump in the Battle Royale Mode pretty soon after putting in the disc in their console or starting the download after around 16-20 GB has been installed or downloaded.
The Day One Patch is intended to fix many game glitches and bugs to ensure that the players can easily join game servers and other . Activision also recommends that the players need to ensure that they have around 112 GB of free hard disk space on their consoles before they install the game with the update.
Once the update is complete, the game size will return to 55 GB which shows that nothing new is being added to the game and only the existing files are being updated. Once the installation is complete and the game is back to normal size, players will not need the extra space for the game.
Fans who purchased the digital copy of the game are safe as they will only need to download 55 GB of the whole game and with Blackout unlocking after downloading around 16-20 GB of the game size.
As far as the physical disc owners are concerned, they will need to install the game and download a hefty 50 GB Day One Patch before they can jump in the action.
