Bungie is Bringing Huge Weapon and Armor Nerfs for Destiny 2

Destiny 2

Bungie has announced that it will be nerfing most of its exotic weapons in Destiny 2. These weapons include Whisper of the Worm exotic sniper rifle, which is not the first time it is being nerfed.

The changes are expected to go live with the Season 7 update which makes way for the new Season of Opulence content. After the content update, Whisper of the Worm will lose its ability to create ammo from thin air thanks to the White Nail perk. The perk allowed players to replenish 3 bullets with no penalty to reserve ammo or need to reload, provided that they hit three precision hits in a row.

With the new changes, White Nail will draw directly from the weapon’s reserve ammo, which was nerfed to 9 shots but is being increased to 18 shots without armor perks in Season of Opulence.

Whisper of the Worm

Whisper of the Worm was already adjusted in Season of the Drifter, but an Exotic that can generate an infinite amount of Heavy ammo is still a gigantic outlier and renders many weapons irrelevant for certain encounters. While Exotics are intended to be powerful and novel, bypassing the ammo economy can tend to force us to adjust enemies to compensate. This effectively results in Sniper Rifles as a whole being punished because of Whisper’s unique ammo ability. As a result, we’re removing the ammo generation ability so that we can increase the effectiveness of all other Snipers that don’t have an endless ammo supply.

  • White Nail pulls ammo from reserves rather than creating it
  • Reserve ammunition increased to 18 (without ammo reserve perks)

Super-Generating Exotic Armor Changes

Other changes are being made to armor pieces that generate super energy. These include Skull of Dire Ahamkara, Orpheus Rig, Phoenix Protocol, Shards of Galanor, Ursa Furiosa, and Gwisin Vest.

  • Skull of Dire Ahamkara, Orpheus Rigs, and Phoenix Protocol now receive Super energy back with diminishing returns, making it rarer to get a full Super back
  • Shards of Galanor and Ursa Furiosa had their Super gain caps reduced to be in parity with other Super Exotic changes
  • Gwisin Vest had its energy reduced from 15% to 8% for killing one to two Guardians
    • Still scales up similar to before when killing three or more Guardians
    • PvE energy return remains similar to before

There are many other changes that were detailed by Bungie in its Blog Post. Having said that, the Destiny 2 community is not happy with the nerfs of the exotic weapons in the game.

Many pro players of Destiny 2 voiced their frustrations about the nerfs,

Responding to the concerns, community manager Cozmo addressed to the players over at the game’s subreddit, promising that he will report all feedback. However, he made clear that the changes will indeed come in the new update and there is no going back as of now.
