Review bombing on Steam is usually an after effect of a developer does something. Typically, the negative reviews bombard the game page on Steam which bring down the review ratings. In this case however, Assassin’s Creed Unity is getting positively review bombed on Steam after it became available for free in honor of the Notre-Dame fire incident.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft donated €500,000 to the Notre-Dame restoration in the wake of a fire that severely damaged the historic cathedral. The publisher also announced that it was making Assassin’s Creed Unity, that features the historic cathedral in-game, free to download on PC for a week.

Following the free game, many players went on to shower the game with positive reviews. One such user commented,

Currently, the game has received well over 450+ positive reviews in the past few days. A majority of them referencing the Notre Dame Cathedral. If you are unaware, Notre Dame Cathedral was partially destroyed in a fire earlier this week.

Assassin’s Creed Unity contains a rendition of Paris that contains a very beautiful recreation of the cathedral. With Ubisoft offer to give the game out for free, players can experience the majestic and beautiful Notre-Dame.

The game is set in Paris during the French Revolution and features the Notre Dame prominently in the game. Though the reviews of the game were not so positive, mainly because of technical issues marring the game. Regardless, it is quite noble of Ubisoft with their sentiments to offer the game for free. You can claim a copy of the game for free as the offer runs till April 25.
