Stray Fawn Studio has announced the early access release date of its unique city-builder The Wandering Village. The Wandering Village will release in early access on September 14, 2022, on PC via Steam. The game will also release on Mac and Linux platforms. The Wandering Village is a unique city-builder because it is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and it is set on the back of a giant roaming creature called Onbu.

The Wandering Village combines both city-building and resource management into one game and incorporates rogue-like and survival elements into its gameplay as well. Since your city is based on the back of Onbu, you will need to forge a close relationship with the giant creature if you want to ensure the survival of your city. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where people have been driven from their homes by toxic spores. Now in search of a safe haven, people have settled on the back of the giant creature Onbu.
The game allows you to farm crops, gather rare resources, scout areas for more, and further expand your settlement. Not only do you have to keep your villagers’ needs in check but also the health of the creature. Both are crucial for the survival of humanity, and you will need a good balance between the two. The game will throw a variety of challenges your ways such as merciless weather, bloodsucking parasites, poisonous spores, and limited resources. You will need a different strategy for all of these problems and one that caters to both the creature and your settlement.
Apart from this, establishing a healthy relationship is also necessary because various situations will often put this to the test. You might not be able to place your kitchen in its designated space due to a spike being grown at its place or the villagers may try to take the creature’s blood for food if their crops fail to produce yield. All of these challenges will pose a threat to the entire balance however you will need to live through them.
The Wandering Village has spent three years in development which followed a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2020. From next week, you will be able to jump into an early access version of the game and you can add the game to your Steam wishlist right now. Additional details about the game are present on its Steam page and its development will further continue in the coming months. The developers will also release the game in Xbox Game Preview later in 2023.
