How to Complete
You run into the vase puzzle after you meet Sadness in the lobby of Niwa Hotel. In the lower floors of the hotel is where you have to go through the moth corridor. This means you need enough shield to make it through the corridor.
To do that, you need to first find the old prescription and the poetry book to get more information about this area. Now make your way to the balcony in the next room, where you will need to use the out of body experience to pass through the skin wall. Here you will find a bathroom that you need to go to, as shown in the small cutscene.
Now you need to drain the tub and pink up the razor to open up the flesh wall and enter the other side. From there you need to pick up the sunflower and then bring it back to the vase. Placing it in the case will charge it up, allowing you enough resistance to pass through the moth corridor.
