Publishers 3D Realms, Saber Interactive’s publishing label, and Knight’s Peak, with developer Slipgate Ironworks, have announced the details of the latest update now live in Tempest Rising. The new update adds a major feature to Tempest Rising, which was initially missing from the game: superweapons and the third faction, Veti, to the Multiplayer mode. Dubbed ‘Superior Firepower’, the new update is now live in the game, and it marks the third major update release for Tempest Rising since its release earlier this year.
The new Superior Firepower Update trailer for Tempest Rising gives us a little demo of the new superweapons that you will be unleashing on your enemies in the game:
The main highlight of the new update is definitely the superweapons. The launch version of Tempest Rising featured powers for each faction, but they were not powerful enough to be called superweapons. However, the latest update changes all that. Each faction now has a unique superweapon that can annihilate the enemies and change the course of the battle depending on its use. The GDF is now equipped with the Drone Strike Station, which deploys six automated drones on the location in an explosion that start firing on all enemies around it once deployed.
On the other hand, the Dynasty can deploy the Excavator Platform, which allows you to cause severe earthquakes at a location. Each wave causes damage to units and structures that come into its way. Each faction can build one superweapon at a time and use it to their will once it is charged. The update also brings additional changes and improvements, such as a new global production queue UI allowing you to manage unit production effectively. You will also find a game info codex with information on all units, structures, and factions. If you have Logitech gear, you can now sync RGB to the game. Doctrine visual QOL tweaks are also part of the update.
The Veti multiplayer addition is not a permanent feature at this point, and the test will remain live from December 2 until December 15, 2025. During this test period, you can jump into multiplayer matches while playing as Veti. Veti is an alien faction in Tempest Rising, but it is exclusive to the singleplayer campaign at this point. This test potentially hints at a full addition of the faction to the game in both offline and online gameplay modes; however, no further details are known at this point. To try out the Veti faction, you must first choose the ‘veti_mp_test’ branch in the Steam client.
Tempest Rising is available on PC via Steam, and with regular updates since its launch, the game has expanded significantly since its release. You can update your copy of the game to the latest version and jump back into the game to try out the new superweapons for each faction.
