Publisher KRAFTON, Inc. and developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment have announced that the Early Access release of Subnautica 2 has been pushed into 2026. The announcement was made by Unknown Worlds Entertainment on their official website in a blog post in which the developer cites some critical points that led to its delay. Subnautica 2 was originally slated for an early access release in 2025; however, it will now be released a little bit later in 2026.
According to the developer, the studio conducted a few behind-closed-doors Playtests for Subnautica 2, which garnered positive reception overall by the community and early testers. The community liked the environment, creatures, and the story of the game, along with its general direction, and it showed the developer that the game was on the right path. However, a few players also provided some insight into a few areas that could be improved, and based on that particular feedback, the developers have now decided to push the release date into next year.
According to the original blog post, nothing major is changing in the game, and it will still have the same direction, and its team is going to remain the same as well. The team is ‘confident in what we’ve created; we just want to give you a little bit more content for our first Early Access release’. However, to give us a little bit to wait a little longer, the developer has released a brand-new Take a Deep Breath, which is a Gameplay Reveal Teaser, so let’s check that out:
The Early Access release of Subnautica 2 will now have more biomes, more vehicle upgrades, additional tools, expanded story, and a lot more creatures when it comes out next year. Subnautica 2 will release initially exclusively on PC via Steam. A Steam page for the game is now live if you want to add it to your wishlist ahead of its release.
