Review: Sniper Elite III – Ultimate Edition (Nintendo Switch)

Sniper Elite III

Rebellion once again takes us into the battlefield but this time via the Nintendo Switch with their latest port, how well does it run and it is worth it? Find out in our Sniper Elite III Ultimate Edition Review.

Guns Up Hero

For those who somehow don’t know about Sniper Elite III, the game is a tactical third-person shooter set in the times of World War 2 with its core gameplay mainly focused around sniping and tactical decision making.

Stealth, traps and other destructive tools can be used to your advantage to take down the enemies alongside different objective-based levels, X-Ray cam which is the franchise staple that comes back to glorify the sharpshooter kills.

The main game takes place in a relatively little-explored part of World War 2 and you play as protagonist Karl Fairburne.

Snipers Run, Snipers Camp

Sniper Elite III is a game that is less about the story or detailed narration, it’s more focused on gameplay and is solely gun combat driven, it’s you a sharpshooter who is pitted against enemies and the job is simple. No bad guy should leave without getting his testicles or lungs exploded in slow-mo X-ray gunshot that is shown in a gruesome kill cam after every brutal kill you score.

There’s More To War

Besides the main campaign and the DLC content the game also offers an online mode with a couple of different modes that push sniper vs sniper combat. Despite the fact that the game’s total flow and phrasing is slow but if you’re into such genres than the online is fitting for you.

Although if you prefer run and gun gameplay then maybe head back to Call Of Duty, given the time we are in and how this title was never played by the masses so player count pretty much stays low and getting into online games can sometimes be difficult.

Silver Core

The core gameplay of Sniper Elite III is you being on foot and shooting every moving offense you see (In the shape of humans duh) for some objectives and targets at distance Snipers are your dedicated weapons but for the most part around you can use other weapons too.

Your wheel of destructive tools consists of throwables both lethal and tactical, submachine gun and a handgun. You can make your way out and clear levels by taking cover, being stealthy like a super agent (which is very fun) or be the one man army and walk right into danger.

No matter what play style or approach you have the game stays fun however this is all that pretty much happens in-game till the very end.

Sniping On The Go

Let’s talk about the main aspect of this review which is how Sniper Elite III Is like on the Nintendo Switch? Honestly, it is way too fun not only because the handheld lacks good shooters but the fact on how well the port is and smoothly it performs on the Switch.

The game has absolutely no issues what so ever in terms of performance which is tremendous, In my full playthrough I barely experienced any lag, frame rate drops or hiccups (the usual stuff we witness in many ports).

Be it handheld or docked the game manages to look very good and close to being a total looker visually which is something none of us expected.

Ultimate Means All DLC’s

Sniper Elite III Ultimate Edition includes every single DLC released for the game, every series of missions where you save Winston Churchill from getting killed and a separate fan-favorite mission where you get the chance to assassinate Hitler.

The Ultimate Edition also includes a few cosmetic items that help you edit and pup the looks of your character and guns.

Final Verdict

Sniper Elite III Ultimate Edition at it’s core stays the same along with all of it’s DLCs was which really is the big deal here, a port that is truley phenominal when it comes to performance, With it’s handheld mode being guranteed fun without any doubts and docked mode that is just shy of a tinsy tiny distance of resembling it’s launch console performances. If you never played the original title uptil now, the perfect package has arrived for you to play on your portable console where ever you go.

Final Score: 8.9/10
