It looks like a big day for Facebook Gaming because not only did Microsoft announced to shut down its online streaming service Mixer and announce a partnership with Facebook Gaming, but Facebook Gaming has also acquired the developer Ready at Dawn. Ready At Dawn is a well-known developer for their previous release of PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886.
After the release of The Order: 1886 back in 2015, Ready at Dawn never released another title in the franchise and shifted its focus towards VR gaming where we saw the release of Lone Echo, Echo Arena, and Echo Combat. The studio is currently working on Lone Echo II however the developer now has a brand new umbrella to work under and since Facebook Gaming is heavily inclined towards VR gaming with its Oculus range of headsets, the move will certainly go in favor of the developer.
While I personally really liked The Order: 1886, the critics and players gave mixed reactions about the franchise. The story of the game ended at a major cliffhanger however the game’s performance in terms of sales never made Sony think of a sequel to the title. While the title featured a great atmosphere and narrative, its campaign was extremely short and made fans wonder whether the game deserved its full price tag at the release. After this mixed reception of The Order: 1886, Ready At Dawn has been solely focused on their VR titles.
Lone Echo was released in 2017 exclusively for Oculus headsets and it was set in a space station orbiting Saturn where players were able to move around in zero gravity by grabbing and pushing off the environment. Unlike The Order: 1886, the title received a great reception and even won Game Critics Award for Best VR Game at E3 2017. Lone Echo II is a direct sequel to Lone Echo and is currently under development at Ready At Dawn.
