PS5 Reviews Roundup – All the Goods and Bads of Sony’s Next-Gen Console

PS5 SSD Expansion Guide

With such a weird year, we are finally heading to the end and we are ending it pretty strongly with both next-gen consoles releasing in less than a week now. With their launch dates so close, review embargos are finally lifting, and we have reviews of PS5 already live. Early reviews about the console are extremely positive with most reviewers highly appraising the new DualSense controller and the faster load times.

Obviously, it is too early to really see the real powers of these consoles because the developers will take some time to really push the hardware of the console to its limits. Also, future titles will really define how the developers will use the added features of the DualSense controller. Furthermore, the reviewers are also commenting on the extremely fast load times of PS4 and PS5 titles combined on the new console. The only real feature that some of the reviewers are complaining about is the lack of Quick Resume which is a major feature introduced in Xbox Series X|S.

Below we have listed some of the major outlets and reviewers who got their hands on the PS5 early and have published their reviews so far. Check them out.

  • GamesRadar: 4.5/5
  • Cnet: Sony’s PlayStation 5 scores with big game exclusives that gamers want. It’s also tall and blindingly white.
  • Gamespot: A Promising Start to the Next Generation
  • The Verge: 8.5
  • Destructoid: A few legacy issues aside, Sony is jumping into the next generation pool with both feet.
  • Ars Technica: If you already have a PS4, wait for more truly generational exclusives unless you really need the top-of-the-line right now.
  • Tom’s Hardware: The Sony PlayStation 5 is a powerful game console with an incredible controller and tons of potential. But it makes some noise and has a divisive design that’s far too large for some conventional entertainment spaces.
  • PushSquare: In many ways, the PS5 is a refinement of the PS4 experience in all the right areas, but Sony’s sprinkled some next-gen innovations into the mix.
  • Kotaku: Great Console, Weird Timing
  • Polygon: Accessible ray tracing, speedy load times make PS5 an excellent upgrade
  • VentureBeat: Making console gaming exciting again
  • EuroGamer: This is PlayStation 5 – and it’s terrific.
  • IGN: What the PS5 lacks in subtlety it makes up for in potential thanks to its rapid SSD and remarkable DualSense controller.
  • VG247: A new UI, incredible load times, and fancy controller make the PS5 feel like the real next-gen deal.
