In this Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokemon Locations Guide, we will guide you on where you can find different prominent Pokemon in the new Galar region of Pokemon Sword and Shield. Some of these Pokemon are making an appearance from the previous Pokemon games however some of these Pokemon are required for different Trading missions in the game.
Pokemon Locations Guide – Pokemon Sword and Shield
Our Pokemon Locations Guide will help you find and capture different iconic Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Growlithe
You will find a lot of Growlithe roaming Route 3 just outside the town. You can catch plenty of Growlithe here easily.
Ditto
To find and capture the Ditto, you must have won the last badge. In the Wild, you will find Ditto ranging between level 56-59 so you must have some really powerful Pokemon to catch them. They are found in the Wild Area mostly on the left side of the area. It is extremely rare in the game.
Charmander
Charmander is an end-game Pokemon and you can only get one after you have beaten the main game. When you spawn back at your house after the credits roll down, go outside and take the path to the right. Go inside Hop’s home and use the stairs to go up. Upstairs, head inside the room on the right side to find a Pokeball here. Pick it up and you will get a Charmander. If you want to have more, you will be required to breed more with a Ditto.
Ghastly
Ghastly only spawns during the night time. You will find in in the Watchtower Ruins only. Head there after you have earned your second badge to capture one. You will not find Ghastly here during the day time or when it is snowing. Normal Ghastly ranges from Level 25-30 so come with a suitable Pokemon for the battle.
Vulpix
Vulpix is only found inside the Wild Area and more specifically at the Rolling Fields. You will have to come during the day and when the weather is clear to find and catch a Vulpix.
Meowth
The Meowth found in the Galar region is unique and a lot different than the traditional Meoth. To catch one, you will need to head to Route 4 and look for it in the tall, yellow grass here.
Bunnelby
Bunnelby is found plenty in the Wild Area during any time of the day. Simply head to the Rolling Fields and you will find plenty of Bunnelby there to catch.
Minccino
You will find plenty of Minccino around the nursery located on Route 5. Check the grass patches around the nursery to find plenty of Minccino hiding here and there. It is not much useful itself but you can trade it for Cottonee which is better than Minccino and can also be evolved into a Whimsicott.
Wobbuffet
Wobuffet is yet another classic Pokemon making an appearance in Pokemon Sword and Shield. You will find it roaming the grass patches of Route 5 near the nursery.
Snorlax
In Pokemon Sword and Shield, Snorlax is a wild Pokemon and you will need to find and catch it in the Wild Area. Head to the Motostoke Riverbank to find Snorlax however you must have around four badges before you can actually capture it.
Applin
Applin is probably the hardest Pokemon to find in the game because of its size. It is found in the grass patches around the nursery of Route 5 but it is so small that the grass completely hides it. You will need sheer luck to find one in all the grass.
Lunatone
Lunatone is exclusive to Pokemon Shield so you will not be able to find and capture it in Pokemon Sword. However, if you own Pokemon Sword, you can get it by trading with a trainer. To find Lunatone in Pokemon Shield, head to Route 8 and find the small grass patch which has a ladder and a wheelbarrow next to it. Lunatone is not a common Pokemon so you will need to check the area a few times to finally spawn one.
Falinks
To find and capture Falinks in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you will need to head to Route 8 and reach around the midway of the route. Here, you will find some holes in the rocks around you. Falinks come out from these holes and they are only found in this area in the entire game.
Ponyta
Despite being a 1st generation Pokemon, Ponyta is only found in Pokemon Shield. You can only have a Ponyta in Pokemon Sword by trading with someone who caught one in Pokemon Shield. To find a Ponyta in Pokemon Shield, you need to head to Glimwood Tangle. Ponyta does not spawn randomly in the area. You will need to encounter other Pokemon in the area to finally have one spawn for yourself.
Oranguru
Oranguru is another Pokemon only found in Pokemon Shield. To have an Oranguru in Pokemon Sword, you will need to trade with a trainer who caught one in Pokemon Shield. Similar to Ponyta, Oranguru will only spawn in Glimwood Tangle. Keep encountering other Pokemon and if you are lucky, an Oranguru may finally appear for you.
Duraludon
You can find Duraludon in Pokemon Sword and Shield by heading to Wild Area and making your way to Giant’s Seat. They are easily found in the area so you will not have much trouble finding one once you get to Giant’s Seat in Wild Area.
Axew
You can find both Axew and its evolved form Haxorus on the same spot in both Pokemon Sword and Shield. You will need an upgraded bike because you must have the ability to traverse water before you can go and catch Axew. Once you have the upgraded bike, head to the small island located on Axew’s Eye in the Wild Area. This particular island is pretty small and there is only one patch of grass here. You will find Axew or Haxorus on this island so you can catch it easily.
Clefairy
To catch a Clefairy in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you must head to Motostoke Riverbank located in the Wild Area. You can also find a Snorlax in this area however if you are unable to find a Clefairy in normal weather, come back when it is cloudy to increase your chances of finding one.
Rotom
You can catch Rotom in both Pokemon Sword and Shield. To catch one, you will need to upgrade your bike first. You have to cover a large area covered in water before you can reach this particular spot in the Wild Area. Rotom only spawns at the Lake of Outrage. Ditto is also found in this area. However, Rotom spawns at the very first grass patch after you cross the water area.
Galarian Mr. Mime
The Galarian form of Mr. Mime spawns a lot on Route 10. However, you will first need to beat 8 Gym Leaders and have their badges. Once done, you can simply head to Route 10 and capture a Galarian Mr. Mime.
Raltz
To find Raltz in Pokemon Sword and Shield, head to the Rolling Fields in Wild Area during foggy weather. Raltz is easiest to spawn during foggy weather and you might not even see one during any other weather type.
Sableye
Sableye is exclusive to Pokemon Shield however if you find a trader, you can trade one and get it in Pokemon Sword as well. Similar to Raltz, Sableye only spawns during the foggy weather. Head to Wild Area and make your way to Dusty Bowl during foggy weather and you will be able to nab yourself a Sableye.
Lapras
Another first-generation Pokemon that has found its way to the Galar region is Lapras. You will find Lapras easily during rainy weather. Lapras will also spawn in the Lake of Outrage so your best is to head to Lake of Outrage while it is raining.
