This Nioh 3 Okita Soji Boss Battle Guide details all the tips and tricks you need to defeat Okita Soji. This is one of the hardest fights in the story and the only real two-phase boss encounter. Okita has two full health sections, and once he drops to half HP, his behavior changes completely. The fight demands patience in the first half and extreme caution in the second. Managing your healing and resources here is very important because another boss named Tokugawa normally follows afterward.
Okita Soji Boss Battle Guide – Nioh 3
If you want to fight Okita Soji separately and avoid battling with Tokugawa there, complete all available side missions and finish Mibu Castle first. Defeating Okita there removes him from the later double encounter.
You will face Okita Soji Boss in the Scion of the Gods Mission at level 131, and you should use Ninja Style with Dual Swords. This boss battle is tougher than earlier bosses.
Before entering, make sure you are prepared. Light armor works best in Ninja style to stay fast, while Samurai style with heavy armor can be useful for blocking during dangerous moments. Equip the Summoning Basics skill to increase your summoning seal uses. Dual Ninja Swords are ideal for constant pressure. Life Leech is extremely important because it restores health with each hit and helps you save Elixirs for later. Bring Shuriken, Uncanny Flame, and Shrapnel Bombs for ranged pressure.
How to Defeat the Boss
As discussed above, this is a two-phased boss fight. We will see both of these phases below.
Phase 1 – Controlled Aggression
At the start, avoid using your summoning seals and Elixirs. This part is about saving resources. Okita opens aggressively, so dodge toward his side to get behind him and apply Life Leech immediately. Once it is active, stay on him and keep attacking.
With Dual Ninja Swords, short light attack chains followed by a heavier strike will continuously stagger him. If you keep your rhythm steady, he barely gets a chance to act. When he blocks, pause and wait for him to swing first, then resume your combo.
Only be careful of his grab, which is signaled by a misty glow, and his long forward movement stab attack. You can dodge the first one by moving sideways or backward, and the latter can be avoided by dodging forward. Everything else can be controlled by staying close and interrupting him.
In this phase, he behaves like a strong but simple enemy. As long as you maintain pressure and don’t panic, you can bring him to half health without spending many healing items.
Phase 2 – High Risk
When he reaches half of his health, he will drink an Elixir and begin shining with a yellow aura. From this moment, the fight becomes much harder. Your attacks will no longer stop him easily, and he will continue swinging even if you hit him. He gains access to very long and deadly combos, and if you get caught in the full sequence, you will most likely die.
His fast thrust attacks are the biggest threat, since they can reach you from surprisingly far away. When he flashes red, he performs two quick thrusts back to back. If both connect, it usually means defeat.
There are a few ways to handle this. If your timing is good, you can counter the red attack by switching styles at the right moment. You can also dodge it, but this requires very precise timing. The safer method is switching to Samurai style and blocking with heavy armor. With a full Ki bar, you can absorb both thrusts. After blocking, switch back to Ninja style and focus on movement again.
Right after he powers up, he always performs two long combo chains in a row, with only a short pause between them. Do not try to attack during this time. Just concentrate on staying alive. His thrusts are the only moves you really need to fear. Most of his other attacks can be avoided by keeping your distance, circling widely around him, and dodging when he begins an animation.
Once those opening combos are finished, create space and start attacking safely with your summoning seals and Ninjutsu. If everything connects properly and your Magic stat is high enough, you can remove a large part of his remaining health this way. Fighting him up close during this phase is very risky because of how fast and aggressive he becomes.
It is also important to save your healing items for the next boss. Try to limit yourself to only a few Elixirs during this fight so you have plenty left afterward. It is better to spend your summoning seals here instead of wasting healing.
If he survives your ranged pressure, wait for clear openings between his combo strings and quickly punish him with the same attack pattern you used earlier, then retreat before he starts attacking again. Avoid reapplying Life Leech during this phase and focus on ending the fight quickly while minimizing damage taken.
