MIO: Memories in Orbit Shii Boss Battle Guide – All Phases, Tips and Tricks

MIO: Memories in Orbit Shii Boss Battle Guide

MIO: Memories in Orbit is packed with exploration and tough bosses that go far beyond the regular ending. Even after defeating Ati to get a regular ending, the game still presents major challenges. One of the biggest challenges is Shii, a boss tied to the alternate ending of MIO: Memories in Orbit. This fight is not impossible, but it can be overwhelming at first due to the numerous attacks Shii uses. This MIO: Memories in Orbit Shii Boss Battle Guide details all the tips and tricks that you need to beat Shii.

Shii Boss Battle Guide – MIO: Memories in Orbit

This guide assumes you have already found Shii – Keeper of the Spine. It focuses only on the fight itself, explaining Shii’s attacks and how to survive each phase efficiently.

How to Beat the Shii

Shii is different from most bosses because the fight focuses more on mechanics than aggression. Instead of one or two attacks, Shii has a large number of attacks. You will spend a lot of time airborne, rather than standing and fighting.

You also can’t hurt Shii until they fully appear in the arena, so there is no reason to rush in early. The battle is split into three phases. Some attacks return in later phases, while others are exclusive to specific stages of the fight.

First Phase

During the first phase, the boss will land a multitude of attacks. When the boss moves to the center of the arena and fires a beam, dodge away from the beam’s path. When the boss slams both arms down and drags them around, seven beams will appear, and you will need to dodge the slam as well as the beams to avoid getting damaged. The final attack in this phase is when the boss spins around the arena, slams down to the ground, and unleashes a powerful ring. You must avoid all three moves of the boss to avoid getting damaged.

Second Phase

In phase two, the arena becomes dark, and Shii starts attacking from the shadows. While Shii is concealed, it is better to focus on survival rather than damage. This phase adds several new attacks and greatly increases the pressure on the player.

At certain moments, Shii disappears, and thin yellow lines appear across the arena, slowly closing in toward a central point. To avoid damage, you need to move into that safe center area before the beams meet. Another attack has the boss briefly reveal their head before rushing forward from the darkness, repeating this movement twice, with the second rush covering more ground. Watching closely and dodging as soon as the boss emerges is key here.

The boss may also vanish and summon multiple crystals surrounded by glowing rings. These crystals lock onto you and fire faster over time, so you must either destroy them, grapple them, or move quickly to the side before they overwhelm you. In another attack, the boss reappears on one side of the arena and fires a straight beam across it, then flies upward and punches down. After that, the boss switches sides and fires another beam, making it good and safest to stay positioned behind the boss’s head.

There is also a repeated arm-based attack where the boss slams their arms diagonally onto the platform and crawls across the arena. Once reaching the center, each arm slams down again while beams are summoned along the floor, requiring careful dodging and slow movement through the safe spaces. A more dangerous version of the beam attack returns, where the beam not only travels across the arena but also reverses direction, forcing you to dodge twice. Finally, the boss grabs both sides of the arena and electrifies the floor while summoning more crystals. Since the ground becomes unsafe, you must stay airborne by grappling while avoiding incoming attacks.

Final Phase

The final phase adds only one new attack, but all previous attacks can still appear. This makes the fight dangerous if you get greedy. The safest approach is to wait for clear openings instead of forcing damage.

In the final phase, the boss adds one powerful new attack while still using earlier attacks. The boss curls into a ball at the center of the arena and begins firing beams in several directions, leaving only a few small safe zones. Once the beams stop, a massive ring spreads outward. To survive, you need to carefully position yourself in a safe spot during the beam phase and then dodge the large ring.

Once the fight ends, you will be rewarded with a long and emotional cutscene that leads to the game’s alternate ending. You will also unlock the “Welcome Home” achievement.

Best Modifiers to Use

When you reach Shii, you likely already have several modifiers unlocked. You don’t need a perfect setup, but having modifiers that improve your playstyle will make things smoother. A few modifiers help more than others.

Some of the modifiers that you may use during your fights are:

  • Analyser
  • Enhanced Dodge
  • Pain Conversion
  • Protective Overlay
  • Reduced Latency
  • Self-Awareness
  • Splintering Dodge

Splintering Dodge stands out because it lets you apply extra damage while avoiding attacks, which fits this fight well.

You should always stick with modifiers that feel natural to your playstyle. If the fight feels difficult, you should go back and rescue Mel before trying again. She gives you some upgrades that give you a better chance at fighting.
