While exploring Fury Green, the first large exploration area in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you will notice strange platforms that seem impossible to use at first. These are known as Psychic Platforms. These Psychic Platforms are tied to one of the game’s early upgrades, and without the right ability, Samus simply can’t stand on them or make use of them. If you are wondering when these platforms will become usable and what power makes them work, then this guide is for you. In this Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Psychic Boots Guide, we will show you how to unlock the Psychic Boots and what they do once you have them.
How To Get Psychic Boots in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Even though Psychic Platforms appear early in Fury Green, you won’t be able to interact with them right away in that map. To unlock Psychic Platforms fully, you must first finish the game’s second major area, Volt Forge.
In this Volt Forge mission/map, you are tasked with restoring electricity by activating two separate towers. During this section, Samus also gains access to the Vi-O-La motorcycle, which helps her move through parts of the area. After both towers are powered with the generators, the story pushes forward toward the end of Volt Forge.
At the end of Volt Forge, Samus faces Xelios in a boss fight. Once Xelios is defeated, the Psychic Boots are awarded automatically. Beating the boss is all it takes to earn this upgrade. You don’t have to do anything extra.
What the Psychic Boots Do
The Psychic Boots serve two different but important purposes. First, they allow Samus to stand on Psychic Platforms, making previously unreachable collectibles and paths accessible.
Second, they give Samus a double jump ability. While in the air, pressing B or L triggers a second jump, helping you reach higher ledges and hidden areas. There is no need to manually equip the boots, as the ability works automatically as soon as you get them.
Using the Upgrade Right Away
After unlocking the Psychic Boots, players can immediately return to Fury Green and make use of the Psychic Platforms they saw earlier. The added jump height also opens up new exploration options throughout the game, making this upgrade one of the most useful early rewards.
