Johnny Chainsaw is a Unique Platformer Without a Jump Button

Steam Next Fest February 2023

Indie developer Finicky Fox has announced the demo release of its new title Johnny Chainsaw which is a unique platformer without a jump button. Johnny Chainsaw is participating in the upcoming Steam Next Fest and a free demo of the game is available right now on Steam. When we normally say platformers, there is a lot of jumping, sliding, and movement involved of every type however the solo developer working behind Johnny Chainsaw went his own way to design a platformer that does not have any sort of jumping mechanics.

Instead, you are equipped with a huge chainsaw that is used for platforming and jumping around. Nearly all of the movement is done with the help of your chainsaw as you jump around and cross huge gaps with it. To move around, you will use the world around you in order to navigate obstacles and levels. The game features 40 levels and you will even encounter various boss battles. For keeping things challenging and to encourage replays, the game also features a death counter and timer where you can try to complete the game in as little time as possible and with as less deaths as possible.

The full release of Johnny Chainsaw will feature two different modes for you to play. Apart from the Standard Mode, you will also be able to play the Story Mode where you will decide the fate of the inhabitants of Corut and how their lives will be changed forever. The Standard Mode does not have any sort of story elements and is best for streaming, speedrunning and just mastering the in-game mechanics for that ‘perfect’ run. Key features of Johnny Chainsaw include:

  • 40 short levels
  • 6 boss fights
  • Death counter and timer
  • Collectibles
  • Character Sheets
  • Rich story and Cutscenes (story mode only)
  • Quick resets after character death – get right back in the action
  • Achievements

You can head over to Steam and download the free demo of Johnny Chainsaw to try out this unique platformer and master the mechanics before the full game comes out. You can also add the game to your wishlist if you like the demo. The full version of Johnny Chainsaw is slated for a 2023 release.
