Cog Tags are a remembrance of your fallen comrades in Gears of War: Reloaded, and while they served no purpose in the original Gears of War, apart from being a collectible, in Gears of War: Reloaded, each Cog Tag you collect will unlock a new Comic Book page for you in the Extras section. Our Gears of War: Reloaded Cog Tag Locations Guide details the locations of all Cog Tags in the game.
Cog Tag Locations Guide – Gears of War: Reloaded
Below you will find the locations of all 33 Cog Tags found in the game. The original Gears of War only had 30 Cog Tags, but since Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War: Reloaded added additional story chapters to Act V, we have three new Cog Tags to collect in the newer releases. The sequence remains the same in all three releases, but you will only find Cog Tag # 28, 29, and 30 in the Ultimate Edition and the Reloaded Version.
How to Spot a Cog Tag
Spotting a Cog Tag is fairly easy unless they are extremely well-hidden. Each time you see a Crimson Omen Logo icon painted somewhere, there is a Cog Tag placed somewhere close to it. If you see a Crimson Omen, explore this area properly because there is always a Cog Tag around it. Some may be a little far from the actual sign, but there is always a tag around it.

Act I
This section lists all Cog Tags found in Act I of the main story.
Chapter: 14 Years After E-Day
There are three Cog Tags in this chapter:
Cog Tag #1:
When the game starts, you will be given a choice of either going through training or jumping straight into action. Choose the Prison option. Now go ahead straight, and you will find a Cog Tag here next to a Crimson Omen logo.
Cog Tag #2:
When you have your first proper gunfight after Locusts burst through the gate, go back to this arena and check the right side. You will find some ammo along with another Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #3:
Now go through the door where the Locusts burst through for the gunfight and stick to the left side. Go up the stairs here, and you will find another Cog Tag.
Chapter: Trial By Fire
There are two Cog Tags in this chapter.
Cog Tag #4:
This Cog Tag is an introduction to Cog Tags, and you cannot miss it. Fight the grubs up the stairs, and when you leave the room above, Kim will automatically point towards the Cog Tag and advise you to pick it up so that it can be given back to the families of the fallen. It is hard to miss.
Cog Tag #5:
Progress in the mission until you come across the bridge, where you witness the Alpha Squad’s fate. Move on to the next hall, and you will have to face some Locusts coming via Emergence Holes. Kill them all and look for this Cog Tag near the Emergence Hole.
Chapter: Fish in a Barrel
There is only one Cog Tag in this chapter.
Cog Tag #6:
This Cog Tag is found inside a corridor, which Kim opens up after rescuing Cole. Go inside this hall and turn left to find a Cog Tag. This is the same corridor where Jack rips open a door, and you have to defend it against an army of Wretches.
Chapter: Knock Knock
There is only one Cog Tag in this chapter.
Cog Tag #7:
Before you enter the main building, there is a white van sitting on its stairs, which has a Crimson Omen painted on it. Head to the left of this van to find a Cog Tag on the stairs.
Chapter: Hammer
This chapter has two Cog Tags to find.
Cog Tag #8:
When you reach the central square after eliminating the Troika emplacement, you will find a Crimson Omen painted on the monument in the center. Make your way to the other end of this area, and you will find a Cog Tag sitting there. This is the same area where you fight Locust coming from four different Emergence Holes.
Cog Tag #9:
After killing the second seeder, progress in the level until you come across a dead body, and Cole comments that it is Rojas. From the body, turn around, and you will find his Cog Tag in the corner.
Chapter: China Shop
There are three Cog Tags in this mission.
Cog Tag #10:
After the Berserker kills the soldier, head to this location and pick up his Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #11:
In the final hall where the Berserker smashes the wall and you can go outside the tomb, you will find the Cog Tag right next to the door, in the corner.
Cog Tag #12:
After you come outside, do not kill the Berserker just yet, but instead, turn left and keep running next to the wall. There is another Cog Tag in this location up ahead. If you kill the Berserker before picking it up, you will miss it.
Act II
This section of the guide lists all Cog Tags found in Act II of the game.
Chapter: Tick Tick Boom
This chapter has only one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #13:
Right at the location where the Chapter Tick Tick Boom ends and Grist begins, turn right, and you will find a Crimson Omen painted in the corner of the wall up ahead, behind a shelf. Use the scaffolding and stairs to go down and then further down to find a Cog Tag behind some concrete barriers.
Chapter: Grist
This chapter has two Cog Tags.
Cog Tag #14:
Keep moving ahead in the level until you come to an open hall with paths on its sides and a huge machine in the middle with a Crimson Omen painted on it. Exit it room following the path up ahead, go down the stairs, kill the Wretches, and then quickly turn around and go ahead in the alley. You will find this Cog Tag next to a dumpster.
Cog Tag #15:
This Cog Tag is easily missed, not because you don’t see its Crimson Omen, but because the location triggers a cutscene if you are not careful, and if this happens, you miss it. When approaching the Stranded Outpost, make sure that you are sticking to the left side wall. Stick with this wall and move ahead towards the Crimson Omen and pick the Cog Tag sitting right next to it.
Chapter: Lethal Dusk
This chapter has two Cog Tags.
Cog Tag #16:
Right after the first Stranded Outpost, you will come to a burning car in the middle of the road. Behind this burning car is a Crimson Omen, and next to it is a small shack that sits in darkness. It has a propane tank inside it. Shoot it to make some light and then sprint inside it. It has a Cog Tag in it.
Cog Tag #17
When you reach the area where you must help Dom with the searchlight to cross the street, a Cog Tag is sitting at the start of the area. The Crimson Omen is painted on the right side pillar from where you come, but the Cog Tag is sitting on its opposite end. Help Dom and then swing the search light back to the starting area, in front of a wrecked car. Now go back down, spring to this location, and pick up the Cog Tag.
Chapter: Dark Labyrinth
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #18:
In the section where you must shoot a propane tank inside a car and sprint alongside it to avoid the Kryll, do not shoot the Propane Tank until you pick up this Cog Tag first. You will easily spot the Crimson Omen on the back side of the car, and the Cog Tag is sitting right next to it on the street.
Act III
This section lists all Cog Tags found in the third act of the game.
Chapter: Downpour
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #19:
While exploring the outside area of the Imulsion facility, you will come across a building numbered 3 with a Crimson Omen painted on it. Head to the backside of this building, and you will find a jetty leading into the ocean. Follow it and you will find the Cog Tag sitting at its edge.
Chapter: Evolution
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #20:
When you reach the derelict floor room where the Stranded falls and is killed by Glowing Wretches, you must follow the correct path to reach the Cog Tag. Enter the room and turn right immediately. Follow the path, past the machine, and quickly turn left onto the two-plank section. Cross both two-plank sections and then turn left. Cross this section, but avoid going on the last section, which already looks broken. Use a 30-degree movement to reach the planks on the right side of the room, hugging the pipe, and move straight towards the Cog Tag to collect it.
Chapter: Coalition Cargo
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #21:
When you arrive in the cart room, do not activate the switch, but rather head down the stairs, turn right, and collect the Cog Tag right next to the stairs.
Chapter: Darkest Before Dawn

Cog Tag #22:
At the start of the level, go right, and you will notice a door in the distance with a Crimson Omen painted on it. Go towards this door, and you will find the Cog Tag here.

After you slide down the water stream, you will find a structure in front of you that has a bluish-white light. Go towards it and check near its stairs, where you will find another Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #24:
When you see the Corpser for the first time in the mine, turn around and move towards the truck parked ahead. Continue ahead, and you will find a Cog Tag here.
Act IV
This section of the guide lists all Cog Tags found in Act IV of the game.
Chapter: Campus Grinder
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #25:
At the start of the level, cross into the big area where the enemies are present and turn right towards the stairs leading to the concrete section of the area. Go up and then stick to the right side while moving forward. The Cog Tag is sitting next to another set of stairs here.
Chapter: Bad To Worse
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #26:
As soon as the chapter starts, you will notice two yellow banners ahead, along with a Crimson Omen on the wall. The Cog Tag is sitting right here.
Chapter: Imaginary Place
This chapter has one Cog Tag as well.
Cog Tag #27:
Inside Fenix State, when you get access and are instructed to head deeper into the house to find the lab in the cellar, you can find the Cog Tag here. To make it easier, go towards the main staircase and turn right to enter the section of the house that has red walls. Progress further until you come to a room that has a big Gears logo on the wall and a red table sitting in the middle. Shoot down this table, and a Cog Tag will appear under it.
Act V
This section of the guide lists all Cog Tags that appear in the final act of the game.
Chapter: Comedy of Errors
This chapter has one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #28:
When you are under the bridge where the Stranded have been slaughtered, make your way to the exit, and upon reaching the open area next to it, you will notice a steel gate that is half open and has a Crimson Omen on it. Go inside this gate, and you will find the Cog Tag.
Chapter: Window Shopping

Chapter: Jurassic Proportions
This chapter has only one Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #30:
As soon as the Brumak boss battle begins, stick to the left side of the arena and run towards the back of the boss where it came from. Here, you will find a Cog Tag sitting behind a concrete barrier.
Chapter: Train Wreck
This chapter has three cog tags.
Cog Tag #31
After defeating the berserker and watching the short cinematic of Reavers taking off, head inside the train car, turn right, and pick up the Cog Tag.
Cog Tag #32
Now move to the next open car, and when you reach the train car with the chaingun at its top to fight the Reavers, make your way to its ground floor, where you will find another Cog Tag in the middle.
Cog Tag #33
The final Cog Tag of the game is sitting inside a train car, which is right after the timed section with the Wretches. When you are safe from the Wretches and the timer goes away, press the green button to proceed further, and then go right to press another green button to open the path. Go ahead, and you will find a Crimson Omen on the train car’s wall. Head inside this train car and open the door at the end to find the Cog Tag sitting inside this small room.
