Italian indie developer Elvis Morelli has announced that his free-to-play mobile game Game Over Carrara has been selected as a finalist in the upcoming NGDC Season V Grand Finals in November. Game Over Carrara was presented in front of the judges, comprising of representatives from Tencent Games, WhisperGames, and Global Game Jam in the final session of the online LevelUp conference in Rome.
Game Over Carrara is set in the city of Carrara in Tuscany in the Apuan Alps and it is famous for its unique marble. The game was born from the developer’s idea of involving an entire city. Elvis Morelli picked the ancient and splendid Italian village of Carrara and turned it into a game. The developer aims at bringing his village back into life since Carrara is slowly becoming a forgotten village. To make the city feel alive again, the developer has gone for the undead approach.
In Game Over Carrara, you will be exploring the city of Carrara as you explore the city hit by a zombie apocalypse. As you play the game, you will meet different characters who are real citizens of Carrara. The developer created a cast using social media to choose different people for the roles of some of the actors in the game. Along with the local people, you will also meet various shopkeepers and agencies in the city that supported the game by sponsoring the first two episodes of the game.

The developer has made sure that everyone who supported the title was able to become a part of the game without any sort of invasive advertising. Elvis details that this game was created after he took inspiration from Hideo Kojima and his title goes beyond the concept of gaming, entertainment, and storytelling. He details:
Reading some Gamification examples I immediately got hooked on the idea that a video game could do something else besides entertaining the viewer. My goal is to introduce Carrara to as many people as possible, and it would be a dream to know that one day a tourist wishes to visit it after playing my video game.
If you want to try out Game Over Carrara, you can do so right now by playing the first two episodes of the game on Android for free. An iOS release for the title is coming soon as well. Another demo of an extra DLC episode is also available for playing and currently, the third episode is in development with a planned release of early 2022. Once all episodes are available, a Steam Bundle release is also planned.
