Emtek Redesigns its RTX 2060 to Reduce Production Costs, Lowers Price

Emtek, a well-known South Korean manufacturer has redesigned one of the models from its RTX 2060 series for re-launch at a lower price point. NVIDIA has brought back the RTX 2060 and GTX 1050 Ti GPUs to deal with graphic card shortage in the market and now third-party manufacturers have also started to roll out their versions of these cards.

The Emtek RTX 2060 redesigned model was spotted by famous leaker @Harukaze5719. Emtek has named the card a GeForce RTX 2060 Storm X Dual Basic D6 6GB graphics card. The new, revised model features a downgraded cooling system and power delivery subsystem.

In the original RTX 2060 Storm X Dual D6 6GB graphics card, the GPU had 4 copper heat pipes that transfer the heat to the heatsink. In the revised version, Emtek has halved the number of heat pipes to two.

The same philosophy has been employed in the power delivery subsystem. The original version sports a 6+2-phase design, while the new version makes use of a 4+2-phase design. This will limit the overclocking potential of the card somewhat.

But even with these changes to the power delivery and cooling design, the GeForce RTX 2060 Storm X Dual Basic D6 6GB comes with the same 1,365 MHz base clock and 1,680 MHz boost clock as the regular version. It is reasonable to think that this model should run hotter and, consequently, louder than the non-basic model.

These cutbacks to the cooling and power delivery design have allowed Emtek to lower the price of the card. The original GeForce RTX 2060 Storm X Dual D6 6GB retails for 655,500 KRW ($592.65). And the revised GeForce RTX 2060 Storm X Dual Basic D6 6GB will sell for 580,000 KRW ($524.39), which is an 11.5% price reduction from the original.

We do not know how long the GPU shortage will last in the market. So this card might be a good option for users looking to upgrade in a hurry.
