Crusader Kings 3 Schemes and Hooks Guide
Below we have detailed what Schemes and Hooks are in the game and how they work.
What are Schemes
A Scheme is a basic way of interacting with a character of the game. It does not have to be a positive one, especially considering if you are looking to get a plot against a character in game.
The first is the Hostile Schemes where you can directly start an action against a character. As a hostile act, you can kidnap or murder a character, directly affecting your relationship and affecting the gameplay. While you can murder any character at any time, you can plot other hostile attempts depending on the perks that you have unlocked for yourself.
Before you start a hostile scheme, you can check two vital pieces of information. The information is the success of the hostile attempt, while the other is the secrecy score, which determines how much you have covered your tracks in the process. The more the secrecy score, the better your chances of escaping without much harm.
The other is the Personal Scheme, which works in a more gentler way than Hostile Schemes. Personal Schemes allow you to influence a character in ways that can benefit you. This scheme is directly related to your relationship with a character, which means that if you are on good terms with someone, it will be significantly easier to make the scheme successful.
When a personal scheme is active, you can perform various tasks and actions that can develop your relationship with a certain character. Depending on what your intentions are, you can work on increasing your friendship with a character to progress in the scheme.
What are Hooks
A Hook allows you to force characters to do what you want them to. For example, accepting marriage offers, changing your Feudal Contract, or forcing them to join a scheme of yours as an Agent.
There are basically two types of hooks, which are Strong and Weak Hooks. Weak hooks are used up once expended, while Strong Hooks have a cooldown period, allowing you to reuse them again.
Hooks are determined by how strong they are, where the strongest hook comes from Blackmailing a certain character. It is best to keep a hold on a to hook when you have it. This will prevent a character to attack you or plan a hostile scheme against you when you don’t expend a hook. While having a strong Blackmail Hook on someone really gives you the upper hand, it will be lost if the Secret you are blackmailing over is exposed.
