Crimson Desert Horses Guide – How to Tame, Registering Horses

Crimson Desert Horses Guide

This Crimson Desert Horses Guide details everything that you need to know about horses in the game, such as finding wild horses, taming them, and registering your horses. In Crimson Desert, horses are more than just a way to travel. They make exploring faster, smoother, and much more efficient. Even though you get a basic horse early on, many better ones are waiting in Pywel. By taming, upgrading, and managing your horses properly, you can improve both travel and combat while also opening up some extra ways to earn money.

Horses Guide – Crimson Desert

As you explore areas around Hernand, you will notice that horses are everywhere. Some roam freely in the wild, while others belong to NPCs. Wild horses can be claimed if you manage to tame them, and they come in different types with varying stats like health, stamina, attack, and defense.

Where to Find Wild Horses

Early in the game, you will start spotting wild horses just outside Hernand. Some can be seen in the grassy area between two small streams to the east of town, while others appear further south across the river near the cliffs around Howling Hill. Even if two horses belong to the same type, their appearance can still be quite different, so you can choose one that looks the way you like.

If you want an in-depth introduction, there is also a side activity in the northern region, near the eastern side of the Hills of No Return. Close to the Arboria Craftshop, you will find a hidden horse trading spot. There, an NPC will ask you to help tame a wild horse located in a nearby open field, giving you a proper chance to learn the process.

How to Tame Them

Wild horses are very alert, so getting close to them isn’t easy. You should move slowly and try to approach from behind, but don’t rely too much on stealth. As soon as the horse notices you, quickly run toward it and mount it before it escapes.

A simpler and more reliable way is to use food. You can buy items like hay, carrots, or sweet treats from merchants. When you hold these items in your hand, horses become less afraid. Drop the food on the ground, and the horse will come over to eat. This will give you a safe chance to mount it.

Once you are on the horse, you will need to complete a taming sequence. A meter will appear, and your goal is to fill it by keeping your balance. To do this, press your buttons in the right direction, usually leaning backward, while keeping the camera focused behind the horse works best. Your stamina will slowly drain during this process, so staying steady is important.

If your stamina runs out, you will fall off, but you often have a short window to grab the horse again and continue. If the horse fully escapes, don’t worry, you can try again.

Registering and Managing Your Horse

After you successfully tame a wild horse, the game gives you a few choices. You can ride it immediately, register it and keep riding, or send it straight to a stable. If you only need it for a short ride, you can ignore registration, but registering the horse is the better option.

Once registered, your horse becomes permanently available through stable merchants. There is a stable located north of Hernand where you can call back any horse you’ve left behind in the world. This system also lets you switch which horse each character is using.

Although stables allow you to sell horses, the amount of money you get is quite low. So it is usually not worth selling your tamed ones. If your goal is to earn money, selling stolen horses is a better choice.

Buying Horses from Stables

You can also buy horses from stables, but since taming is not very difficult, spending your Silver here is often unnecessary. However, browsing the available horses can still help you compare stats and understand which types are stronger.

Stables are also useful for checking your horses in detail. You can view their stats, equipment, and trust level, and compare them with others you own. Each horse develops differently, so this helps you decide which ones are worth keeping and improving.

Equipping and Upgrading Your Horse

To make your horse stronger, you can equip it with different types of gear. This can be done through your inventory by switching to the horse equipment section.

Each horse has several gear slots, and every item improves a specific stat. Saddles increase health, horseshoes increase health regen, while stirrups improve stamina recovery, and Champron and Barding boost combat ability.

Most of these items can be purchased from saddlery shops, while some of the better gear is harder to obtain and usually earned through progress in certain areas. Once you have the items, equip them from your inventory to apply their bonuses.

Keeping Your Horse Healthy

Since you can fight while riding, your horse can take damage. When hurt, it becomes less effective and may struggle with stamina or abilities.

To keep it in good condition, you can feed it items like carrots or hay to restore some health. For a full recovery, special items like tonics can help it heal instantly. You can also visit a stable to restore its condition if you don’t have supplies.

Later in the game, Healing Force Palm ability even allows you to heal your horse directly, which can be very useful in emergencies.

Improving Horse Trust and Skills

Every horse starts at a low trust level of 1, but this increases simply by riding it often. As trust grows, the horse unlocks new abilities.

Different breeds gain different skills, but these can include faster movement, better handling, improved jumping, or even swimming abilities. The more time you spend riding, the stronger and more capable your horse becomes.

Skill Level Brianto Herspia Priden
Level 2 Dash Dash Dash
Level 3 Drift, Back Kick Drift, Back Kick Drift, Back Kick
Level 4 Sprint Sprint Sprint
Level 5 Swimming Rank 3, Quick Start, Consecutive Instant Acceleration Swimming Rank 3, Quick Start, Double Jump Swimming Rank 3, Quick Start, Double Jump, High Jump

 Selling Stolen Horses for Profit

While you can’t officially keep stolen horses, you can still make money from them. By wearing a mask, you can take horses that belong to others.

To sell them, you will need to travel outside Hernand toward a Saddlewind ranch area where a hidden trader deals with stolen animals. Ride the stolen horse there, and the trader will buy it from you.
