Indie developer and publisher Studio Morgan has announced the release date for its upcoming cozy metal detecting adventure game, Morgan: Metal Detective. Morgan: Metal Detective is releasing on PC and consoles, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on July 30, 2026. Morgan: Metal Detective puts you in the shoes of Morgan, a teenage girl who is visiting the Cornish island of Glasden with her mom after her grandpa’s passing. After receiving her grandpa’s metal detector, Morgan decides to scour the grounds of the local village and investigate the legends of Glasden’s secret treasure.
Every single soul in Glasden is looking for something, and Morgan must search the island with the metal detector to find the lost treasures. Each of these quests will require you to engage and think about the potential location of the lost item. As you reunite residents of Glasden with their lost items, you will seek your grandpa’s help and restore magic along the way. Each item that you find in the game has a purpose. When you return a lost item to its owner, you will receive a unique cassette tape which you can listen to while exploring the island.
Even if you find something that is utter trash, you can exchange it for some credits to purchase new sticker packs and film for your instant camera. You can place the stickers in your journal, and the additional film will help you take additional pictures with your camera. You can always express yourself in your in-game journal by taking more pictures, purchasing stickers, and hunting for treasure.
Harvey Hayman, Co-Director and Game Designer at Studio Morgan, commented:
Morgan: Metal Detective is designed to be like an old jumper – warm, comforting, and above all, cosy. We wanted to express the feeling of childish, care-free exploration; the Cornish island of Glasden is your playground to explore and re-discover lost treasures with your trusty old metal detector. We hope that we have succeeded in creating a wholesome world to relax in.
Holly Hudson, Co-Director and Art Director at Studio Morgan, also added:
Morgan: Metal Detective is a cosy love letter to childhood Cornish holidays. Set against the backdrop of a hand-crafted 3D island, it invites players to embark on an adventure filled with the innocent thrill of exploration, armed with a trusty metal detector and shovel. This game blends a simple yet striking environment with vibrant 2D details, mirroring Morgan’s inquisitive perspective of the island and its inhabitants.
