Solwyn is one of the most unique creatures in ARK Survival Ascended. The Solwyn can only be found on the Lost Colony map, and while you may see them roaming around the map, you cannot tame them like normal creatures. Instead, they evolved from another creature called the Veilwyn. In this ARK: Lost Colony Solwyn Guide, we will show you where Solwyns appear and how to tame them.
Where To Find Solwyn in ARK: Lost Colony
Solwyn appears in many different parts of the Lost Colony map, making them common to spot. However, they do not spawn inside the city areas.
Moreover, Solwyns cannot be tamed directly. Seeing one does not mean you can claim it right away. To get one, you must first work with a Veilwyn and tame it. You can find Solwyn here: Lat: 22.5 Lon: 13.5
How to Tame a Solwyn in ARK: Lost Colony
You can tame Solwyn indirectly. Below are the steps that you need to follow.
- Taming a Veilwyn
Your journey starts by taming a Veilwyn. Try to tame the high-level Veilwyn, since higher levels will give better results. After taming it:
- Open its radial menu
- Set it as your active companion
- Place the whistle or emote key on your hotbar for quick use
These steps are important and must be done before interacting with a Solwyn.
- Interact with a Wild Solwyn
Once your Veilwyn is ready, approach a wild Solwyn. Above the Solwyn’s head, you will see a symbol showing an ability or emote. Use the same whistle or emote shown above it. Each correct action increases Solwyn’s curiosity by 10 percent.
When curiosity reaches 100 percent, you will be able to interact with the Solwyn and receive an item called a Pristine Vulpite, which will be used to evolve Veilwyn later.
There are a few important things to keep in mind during this step:
- Do not bring other tames with you while interacting with Solwyn, as it may attack them
- Using the wrong emote or getting interrupted will temporarily prevent you from trying again
- After claiming a Pristine Vulpite, there is a cooldown
- Higher-level Solwyns reward better-quality Pristine Vulpites, ranging from lower tiers to top-tier quality
- The Adventure
This is the most time-consuming part of the process. Open your Veilwyn’s buff page, and you will see an adventure progress bar with a message “Adventure – Someday you’ll be a big fox”. To fill this bar, you must kill creatures while your Veilwyn stays close to you.
There are some things you need to keep in mind:
- Progress is very slow
- Your Veilwyn must be nearby to gain progress
- Killing enemies yourself with weapons works better than using other tames
- Letting the Veilwyn get kills does not seem to increase progress faster
Currently, there is no quick or easy way to complete this step.
If your Veilwyn dies during this process:
- Your progress is not lost
- The adventure pauses
- It continues once the Veilwyn respawns next to you
This at least prevents you from having to start over completely.
- Evolving the Veilwyn
Once the adventure bar reaches 100 percent, you are finally ready.
- Place the Pristine Vulpite into Veilwyn’s inventory
- Use the Consume option
- The Veilwyn will transform into a Solwyn
After evolving, the Solwyn keeps all the stat points you placed into your Veilwyn, with a small boost to those stats. It is extremely useful and feels great, making it a strong choice for both travel and combat.
All Abilities of Solwyn
Combat Abilities
The Solwyn has a simple but effective attack setup:
- Left click performs a Bite Attack
- Right click releases a Cone of Frost that slows and freezes enemies in front of it
Special Skills
By pressing Left Control + C, you can cycle through Solwyn’s special abilities. Press C to activate the selected one.
- Glacial Endurance: Reduces stamina usage for a short time
- Glacial Power: Increases the power of your next attack by 25%
- Glacial Swiftness: Temporarily boosts movement speed
These abilities help in both combat and travel situations.
Ice Bridge Ability
The Solwyn’s most impressive feature is its ability to create ice paths in the air. This skill costs very little stamina and allows you to move across large gaps, reach high places, or escape danger quickly. It gives you incredible freedom of movement and makes traveling across the map fast and smooth, without needing to fly.
Movement and Exploration
The Solwyn is built for movement:
- Jump and slide using the Spacebar
- Climb walls by holding Space near them
- Take less damage from falls
This makes it especially useful in cities and mountain areas.
Extra Utility
The Solwyn also offers some helpful features:
- You can use weapons while riding it
- It can be stored in your inventory like a personal cryopod
However, keep in mind:
- If a Solwyn is revived after dying, it turns back into a Veilwyn
- Breeding Solwyns also results in a Veilwyn
- This means the adventure process must be completed again
The Solwyn is an excellent and enjoyable creature, but unlocking it takes a lot of time and effort. The evolution process is currently very slow.
