ARK: Lost Colony Giant Bee Queen Guide – How to Tame, Find Honey

Honey is one of the most useful resources on the Lost Colony map, and the best way to get it consistently is by taming a Giant Bee Queen. While the process can be tricky because of the terrain and aggressive bees, it becomes much easier when you know what to bring and how to approach it safely. Giant Bee Queen Guide – ARK: Lost Colony

Before heading out, make sure you have everything ready. The following items are recommended to bring with you.

Building Pieces

• Wooden Pillars
• Ceilings
• Ramps
• Simple Kibble
• Bug Repellent (for you and your mounts)

Gear & Creatures

• Ghillie Suit (used when accessing hives, as Lost Colony is too cold to wear it all the time)
• Dire Bear
  • Cannot be harmed by bee stings
  • Can gather honey safely
• Snow Owl
  • Helps locate beehives

• Solwyn
  • Makes taming the Bee Queen much easier

Finding Beehives on Lost Colony

Giant beehives spawn along certain cliffside areas on the Lost Colony map. You can find one at this location: Lat: 22.5 Lon: 16.3

1. Fly close to cliff edges using a Snow Owl.
2. Press C to activate its X-ray vision mode.
3. Beehives will show up in red, making them easy to spot.

Because many hives are in risky spots, always choose one that allows you to build and move safely. Once you pick a good hive:

1. Place wooden pillars upward until you reach the hive level.
2. Add a ceiling at the top.
3. Build ramps down to the ground for easy access.
4. Apply Bug Repellent to:

  • Your Snow Owl
  • Your Dire Bear

Stay alert for hostile creatures in the area. Collecting honey by hand is possible, but it is not recommended. Because bees will attack you almost immediately, and with this process, you will usually only get 5 honeys before dying. Instead of this, you should:

1. Ride your Dire Bear up the ramp.
2. Attack the hive using the bear.
3. You will collect 15 honeys, and Bees may not react at all. Even if they do, the Dire Bear is protected and immune to stings. Other mounts would dismount you instantly.

Honey stays fresh longer when stored inside the Dire Bear’s inventory, so leave it there until you need it.

How to Tame the Giant Bee Queen

Taming a Giant Bee Queen on Lost Colony is challenging mainly due to its challenging terrain.

Best Method: Using a Solwyn

1. First, find a hive that is not directly over a deep ravine if possible.
2. Break the hive to release the Giant Bee Queen.
3. Apply Bug Repellent to your Solwyn.
4. Use the Solwyn to carefully create ice bridges toward the queen.
5. Place Simple Kibble in your hotbar.
6. Move close to the queen and press E to feed her.
7. After taming, press E on her once more to receive a placeable beehive.

Alternative Method (Without a Solwyn)

If you don’t have a Solwyn yet:

• Look for a hive that is farther away from ravines
• Some queens may move toward land instead of flying out

After taming the Bee Queen, you will get a placeable beehive which you can place at your base. Add Rare Flowers to start honey production. You can also destroy the beehive to make the Bee Queen appear again. Interact with her to get another placeable beehive.

Always wear a Ghillie Suit or Hazmat Suit when interacting with hives. Without protection, bee damage can quickly kill you.
