ARK: Lost Colony Cryolophosaurus Guide

The Cryolophosaurus is one of the most impressive creatures you can encounter in ARK: Lost Colony. It stands out both in looks and combat style. It is a visually striking creature. Currently, it can only be found on the Lost Colony map, though it is expected to appear on other maps in future updates. This ARK: Lost Colony Cryolophosaurus Guide explains where to find the Cryolophosaurus and how to tame it safely.

Cryolophosaurus Guide – ARK: Lost Colony

Below, you find the spawn locations of Cryolophosaurus in the game, along with information on how you can tame it and what abilities you can expect to have in your Cryolophosaurus.

Spawn Locations of Cryolophosaurus

The Cryolophosaurus only appears in certain areas of the Lost Colony map. When you find one you want to tame, it is essential to remove all nearby enemies first, as the tame requires you to stay on foot and mobile. So that nearby enemies will not interfere with your taming process. You can find Cryolophosaurus at the following location: 76.2 Latitude, 71.3 Longitude.

How to Tame Cryolophosaurus

This creature is dangerous because it uses both ice-based ranged attacks and strong bite attacks. Going in unprepared will almost always end badly.

The following are some items that you should bring with you before going through the process:

  • Strong armor with good durability
  • A Riot Shield or Metal Shield
    • Carry extra shields if yours are low quality/primitive
  • A weapon to deal with surrounding enemies
  • Blood Packs or Medical Brews for healing
  • Narcotics, as the creature loses torpor quickly

Step-by-Step Taming Process

  1. Ensure the entire area around the Cryolophosaurus is safe and clear of any personnel.
  2. Equip your shield and walk toward it slowly.
  3. Once it notices you, it will start throwing ice chunks.
  4. Block these attacks using your shield so the ice is reflected.
    • Each reflected hit builds torpor on the Cryolophosaurus.
    • Higher-level versions require more reflection to knock out.
  5. After some time, it will switch to an ice breath spray attack.
    • When this happens, turn around and run immediately.
    • The spray can freeze you and allow it to kill you with bites.
  6. Use the surrounding environment to stay safe:
    • Hide behind objects when possible
    • Running uphill works well, as the ice spray struggles to hit you
  7. Once the spray attack ends, it will return to throwing ice chunks.
  8. Keep repeating this pattern until the Cryolophosaurus is knocked out.

Torpor drops fast, so do not stop once you have started. Stay focused until Cryolophosaurus falls unconscious.

Taming Food

Cryolophosaurus likes Exceptional Kibble to eat. So, bring that with you. Any kind of meat also works. Use narcotics if needed to stop it from waking up

The Cryolophosaurus saddle becomes available at level 60.
