Code Vein 2 Jails Guide – All Jails, How to Find

Code Vein 2 Jails Guide

Even though Code Vein 2 calls its characters Revenants, the game clearly leans into vampire-style combat. Your character may not be fully human or fully Revenant, but they still rely on one key system to survive: draining blood. This is where Jails come in. Jails are also a core piece of equipment in Code Vein 2 that directly shape how your Drain Attacks work in combat. This Code Vein 2 Jails Guide details what these are and where to find all Jails easily.

Jails Guide – Code Vein 2

Jails activate during Drain Attacks, which can be triggered when an enemy is staggered. When used, the Jail appears from the character’s back and performs a special attack that deals damage while restoring Ichor, which you need to activate Formae abilities.

On your character’s back, you may have noticed an exposed, heart-like device. This is what the game refers to as a Jail. It allows you to contain parts of other Revenants and borrow their abilities, tying directly into the Partner Assimilation system.

Each Jail is equipped in its own slot and is activated using the RT/R2 button. You can also charge your Jail attacks, which increases both damage and the amount of Ichor you drain from enemies.

Characters Attribute Influence

Drain Attack damage is influenced by your character’s attributes. Each Jail scales differently, with rankings ranging from S (strongest) to E (weakest). Higher scaling means that increasing the related attribute results in more Drain damage, making Jail choice important for stat-focused builds.

Passive Bonus

Beyond Drain Attacks, Jails also provide passive bonuses such as Balance, which affects stagger resistance, along with defenses against different damage types. These bonuses work passively while the Jail is equipped, helping your character remain stable during combat.

Every Jail performs its Drain Attack differently. Some are fast and aggressive, others focus on crowd control or long-range safety, and a few provide added defensive boosts. Much like Blood Veils in the first game, Jails act as both a defensive layer and a combat-enhancing tool, depending on your playstyle and build goals.

Bleed and Drain Mechanics

Jails work hand-in-hand with the Bleed system. Unlike traditional status effects, Bleed does not trigger a burst effect. Instead, it stacks on enemies and exists only to boost how effective your Drain attacks are.

The more Bleed you build up on an enemy, the more Ichor you will steal when you perform a Drain. Every weapon has a Bleed Factor, which determines how quickly Bleed is applied with each hit. Weapons with higher Bleed Factors prepare enemies faster for draining.

Bleed fades slowly, so it often helps to attack enemies normally at the start of a fight. This way, when you need Ichor later, the enemy is already primed for a strong Drain attack. Some traits and Boosters allow you to see Bleed buildup, but even without them, it accumulates quickly during normal combat.

All Jails and Their Core Stats

There are six different Jails in total, and each one has its own look and special effects. Beyond their unique functions, all Jails also increase your defense, though the amount varies between them. Because of this variety, switching Jails based on your Blood Code or Bequeathed Formae can make a noticeable difference in how your character performs.

Jail ATK Balance Attributes Burden Drain Attack Effect
Ogre 160 62 VIT E+, FOR D+ VIT 10, FOR 4 Lunges forward quickly, covering a short distance.
Bat 160 38 VIT E+, FOR D+ MND 2, WIL 4, VIT 2, FOR 2 Low damage at range; bats cling to enemies and drain Ichor over time based on Bleed stacks.
Reaper 160 98 VIT E+, FOR D+ VIT 2, FOR 8 Performs a timed parry followed by a wide spinning strike that hits multiple enemies and blocks unparryable attacks.
Stinger 160 81 VIT E+, FOR D+ MND 4, VIT 6, FOR 4 Fires straight through enemies with poor tracking; charged use can knock down or stagger targets.
Ivy 160 16 VIT E+, FOR D+ MND 4, WIL 2, VIT 2, FOR 2 Sends ground spikes at a chosen location, using RT/R2, allowing safe long-range Drain Attacks.
Hound 160 124 VIT E+, FOR D+ VIT 12, FOR 6 Delivers multiple rapid Hound attacks, draining with each hit while boosting defense and disruption resistance.

Locations of Each Jail

Like Ogre, none of the other jails are handed to you automatically through the story. Every remaining Jail must be discovered manually. While all of them can be found fairly early, they are easy to miss if you rush through areas without exploring.

If you search carefully, you can collect every Jail before completing your first Hero, meaning you can use them for most of the game.

Bat Jail Location

Bat is usually the first Jail players pick up. It is located in the Confluence, the hub area where you speak with Lou. You can access this area from any Mistle at almost any time.

After the required story visits, return during an optional visit. The Bat Jail can be found resting on a desk near the mirror, making it very easy to collect once you know where to look.

Reaper Jail Location

Reaper is the first Jail that is hidden in the world rather than placed in a hub. It can be found in the Underground Water Plant on MagMell Island, near where the bridge forms that leads back to the mainland.

Move through the area until you reach a larger room. Instead of exiting north, head east. You will find a chest next to a single chair, and inside that chest is the Reaper Jail.

Stinger Jail Location

Stinger is located in the Sunken City, specifically within Josee’s Outpost. This Jail only appears in the Present Era, so it must be collected before entering Josee’s Era.

On the lowest level of the outpost, you will see a large hole in the floor where the path splits in two directions. Before moving to either side, look in the center of the area to find the Stinger Jail waiting there.

Ivy Jail Location

Ivy is one of the hardest Jails to miss, as it appears during a main story sequence. Josee will eventually send you to an Electrical Substation west of the Sunken City.

After defeating the boss of this area, you will enter a final room containing a key quest item. The Ivy Jail is located in this same room, allowing you to collect it before leaving the area.

Hound Jail Location

Hound is the final Jail available and is found in the last dungeon of Josee’s Era. You can return to this area later during the Present Era or while freely exploring.

It is located in the Sunken Pylon area in the southern part of the Sunken City, near where you fight the Metagen Remnant. Early in the area, you will encounter a locked gate. Continue progressing normally until you unlock an elevator that brings you back around to the other side of the gate. Just beyond it, you will find the Hound Jail, completing the full set.

Upgrading Jails

Back at MagMell, Jails can be upgraded using specific materials. Upgrading improves their stat scaling, strengthens the damage output of your partner, and at higher levels, unlocks additional benefits, including a second weapon slot once fully upgraded.
