RuneScape: Dragonwilds is no longer just an Early Access experiment. Following confirmation that the survival RPG has surpassed one million sales, Jagex has outlined a long-term content roadmap that significantly expands both the scale and identity of its reimagined take on Gielinor.
Revealed during a recent community summit livestream, the plans introduce three major regions set to roll out over the next year and beyond, each pushing the game further into narrative-driven survival territory. Together, they continue the Kuldra Saga, a storyline that has quietly become the backbone of Dragonwilds since launch.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is Celebrating 1 Million Sales with New Content Announcements
Set on the fractured continent of Ashenfall, RuneScape: Dragonwilds blends open-world survival systems with RuneScape’s mythological roots, allowing solo players or groups of up to four to explore lands warped by unstable magic. The upcoming updates suggest Jagex is doubling down on that fusion rather than treating it as a side project.
The first of these regions, Dowdun Reach, is scheduled to arrive toward the end of March. Dominated by the lingering influence of Zamorak, the area centers on a fog-shrouded mountain fortress now overrun by twisted Black Knights. Unlike earlier zones, Dowdun Reach is designed as a more structured challenge, with layered quests, dense interior spaces, and escalating combat encounters that reward deeper exploration with access to mithril-tier crafting materials.
The update also marks an important mechanical milestone for the game. Fishing will be introduced as a new skill, and the level cap for all skills will increase to 99, a symbolic move that aligns Dragonwilds more closely with RuneScape’s long-standing progression identity. Jagex has confirmed that older skills will be expanded retroactively in future updates, suggesting a broader rebalancing is underway.
Later this summer, players will venture into the Umbral Sands, a desert region built around environmental pressure rather than traditional enemy density. Extreme heat drains health during the day, forcing players to plan routes, use shade effectively, and pay close attention to time-of-day cycles. While daylight brings elemental threats and punishing conditions, nighttime introduces its own dangers, reinforcing the region’s survival-first design.
Narratively, the Umbral Sands deepens the game’s mythological scope. Ruled by Fuzan, the Red Dragon General, the region introduces Adamant gear, Red Dragonhide, and Yew weaponry, alongside the presence of Icthlarin, the Demigod of the Underworld, a notable expansion of RuneScape’s divine cast within the Dragonwilds framework.
The most ambitious update, however, lies further ahead. Planned for September 2027, the Scorned Wilderness will conclude the Kuldra Saga with a confrontation against Kuldra, the God Eater. While details remain limited, Jagex positions the region as both a narrative finale and a climactic challenge, signaling a clear endpoint rather than an endless Early Access loop.
Alongside these headline additions, RuneScape: Dragonwilds will continue to receive monthly updates, introducing smaller quests, activities, and quality-of-life improvements as development continues. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is currently available on PC via Steam in Early Access.
