2K has signed a deal with Tiger Woods to bring the player back in the PGA game franchise. In addition, the company has also acquired the PGA Tour 2K21 developer HB Studios Multimedia.
This is not the first time the professional golfer was partnered with a gaming studio, as he was previously partnered with EA Sports for 15 years for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour Series. The partnership had ended back in 2013 after Woods extramarital affairs were widely publicized in the media.
PGA Tour 2K21 is a golf simulation game that is officially licensed by the PGA Tour professional golfers, courses, gear, and brands. Woods’ new partnership means the pro golfer will now be a part of the series as a playable character.
Tiger Woods had talked about the new deal for PGA franchise in a statement released by 2K where he said,
I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen. I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.
The partnership has a lot more other than Woods just appearing in the gaming series, where Woods will also play an active role as the executive director and consultant for the PGA Tour 2K series. 2K will also partner with Woods’ TGR Foundation which helps students through college admissions and provides STEM curricula.
In the statement released by 2K, the company’s president, David Ismailer stated,
In golf, there is no bigger icon than Tiger Woods. Like the rest of the world, we were saddened to hear of his recent accident, and we wish him a full and smooth recovery. We have been eager to announce our partnership with Tiger, whose legendary career has transcended the sport. We are thrilled to have him join our PGA TOUR 2K series as an Executive Director.
